I WANT TO TELL YOU A Story...

When I was a kid, I didn’t just want to play “good enough” bass in a band. I wanted to “geek out”. I would skip meals going through old bass books to learn what the best bassists in the world were doing. (This was pre-internet.) There was one series of bass books I read so much and so often, I wore them out.

Those books were Ed Friedland’s walking bass books.

I couldn’t believe how well he encapsulated walking bass into the pages of his books.

And I wasn’t alone: Ed’s books are among the highest selling walking bass instructional books of all time.

It wasn’t until much later that I learned Ed’s true opinion of his books.

I was speaking to Ed at a bass event in Germany, and I mentioned what a huge influence his books had been.

“Oh those?” he said. “I never really got to the essence with them. I thought they were too broad.”

That’s when the lightbulb went off: what if I could help Ed produce a masterclass.

What if we could make the course Ed was aiming at when he wrote the books…

...only better.

More specific.

With the benefit of Ed’s substantial experience after the original books were published. And, most importantly, with all the advantages of modern video production. And it’s that resource that I want to offer to you today…

8 LESSONS [3+ HOURS VIDEO FOOTAGE] BEGINNER TO ADVANCED

Beginning Walking Bass Lines explores the key ingredients necessary to understand and master the creation of great walking bass lines. When creating this course, Ed was determined to create a program that would give you a clear, laser focused approach to creating your own walking bass lines, and we’re happy to announce he nailed it!

You’re going to start off with clear, functional walking bass lines focused on root notes, and then progress through to more sophisticated lines using chord tones in conjunction with scale tones and half step approach notes in multiple keys.

Throughout this course you will be focusing on the I VI II V progression in multiple keys up and down the fingerboard, leaving no stone unturned. If you don’t know the notes of your neck you certainly will after you’ve completed this course! You’ll be studying the exact same methods used by the jazz greats such as Ray Brown, Paul Chambers, Ron Carter and Christian McBride.

Each lesson moves on directly from the previous lesson and includes play-along exercises, suggested practice methods and much more.

The goal of this course is to give you the tools you need to create great walking bass lines, all over the neck, in any key.
